A selective medium is a medium only certain type of microoganism can grow. It may contain some inhibitors that can inhibit other microorganisms. Of course, the selective medium is used for isolating a certain microorganism, such as E. coli.

Selective medium, as the name implies, is a culture medium used that allows the growth of only select microorganisms, depending on the content of the medium.
For example, eosin-methylene blue (EMB) agar is a selective medium because it contains methylene blue which is inhibitory to Gram positive bacteria, thus it only allows the growth of Gram negative bacteria.
Another selective medium is the MacConkey Agar or MAC. It contains bile salts and crystal violet which are also inhibitory to most Gram positive bacteria.
Other selective medium would include antibiotics that would inhibit the growth of the susceptible bacteria, and sometimes this is used for culturing fungi.
The primary use of these selective media is to suppress unwanted microbes, and to enhance the growth of desired microbes.

You know, we could maybe not blame religeous groups and simple blame the media itself for using this to garner ratings.
But you didn’t hear that from me. I’m rich, and owning the media is fun. You know what, blame a single group. That’s a geat idea.

Unfortunately, the media is run by people whose only goal is to make money. There is a negative stigma against Islam in the United States and media outlets are afraid that they’ll lose viewers (and advertising dollars) if they say something positive about Islam.
Intelligent people are well aware of the fact Islam is not the enemy of the West. Intelligent people can make the distinction between a Muslim and a Radical Muslim.
Unfortunately, many people in the United States cannot make this distinction and the media does not go far enough to clarify things.
There is a very large Mosque near my home, and they employ probably a dozen security guards to guard the congregation’s automobiles so they will not be vandalized during services. Sometimes I’m ashamed to live in an area where people need to hire security to protect their right to religious freedom.
